There was total chaos at the opening of Primark?s first flagship store in Oxford Street on Thursday.
 

Hundreds of shoppers pushed and shoved each other over a false rumour £1 sale rumour 

People had started queuing from 2am in the morning and all hell broke loose when staff opened the doors at 9:45am.

A security guard said at the new 70,000 square ft store said:" They pushed each other out of the way to get to the front. They were like hungry animals."

The situation got so bad that mounted police were drafted in to help staff cope with the huge crowds. Customers were furious and accused Primark of planting the rumour that everything would be on sale for £1 in the first hour.

However Director Breege O? Donoghue denied the claim and told the Mirror: "We knew it would be busy but we couldn?t have imagined it would be this busy."
